Hand Building Classes

Ceramics 101

A foundation course designed to carry you on to a life full of ceramics.

  • Fill up your ceramic’s learners permit in this fun 6-week class. Each class is once a week for 2 hours, and then you’ll return after the class to pick up everything you made.

The first 4 days we will build our projects. That will include introducing all three projects, plus a day to work a little more, or fix anything that broke.

The 5th day we will cover glaze and colorants.

The 6th day we will try out the wheel just enough for you to know if you want to move on with learning how to throw.

*All basic tools and clay provided. However, if you have any cool toys for playing with clay feel free to bring them.

  • This class is for those who want to try out everything ceramic.

This class is for those who want a solid foundation in ceramics science and techniques to move forward independently with confidence.

  • This course is the only one to include a technical mini lesson at the beginning of each session. This sweet little lesson will help you fill up your ceramics learner’s permit so you can move forward with the right vocabulary and basic concepts to build your future as a ceramic artist and maker.

You’ll learn all the basic hand building building techniques (slab, coil, pinch pot), how to put it all together with slip & score, a bunch of vocabulary, and the foundation technical processes that turn clay into ceramic. You’ll get a 1-day exposure to the wheel, and leave with an understanding of how to move forward as a ceramic artist.

Expect to walk away with an understanding of the stages of clay, and an understanding of how to build almost anything.

  • You’ll make 3 different items that cover the breadth of what can be done with clay. Expect to build something sculptural, something functional, and something utilitarian. For example, a sculptural mushroom, a decorative bowl, and a slab mug.
